Italian coach Enzo Maresca front-runner to become next Chelsea manager
Following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Chelsea after one season, numerous players expressed their sympathies and best wishes for the 52-year-old’s future. On Instagram, Reece James sent the Argentine manager a heartfelt message.
Pochettino decided to name James captain of the club last season, but the fullback was barely available under him as he once again saw his season riddled with injuries and played a handful of matches, but whenever he was on the pitch he was an influential player under him.
Pochettino trusting James with the captain’s armband showed his faith in young players, as he wanted academy players to spearhead the team. However, we couldn’t see much of James under Pochettino but we saw many players who struggled to make an impact before the arrival of the former Southampton manager.
But James emotional message will certainly make the former Tottenham Hotspur manager tear up a little as he thanked him for his management and his assistant team after he wrote on Instagram, which read as:
‘’Thank you for everything, boss. We had an amazing relationship from the moment we met. I never played as much as I would have hoped under you, which I am sorry for but also something I couldn’t control. You believed in me and gave me a huge responsibility when many others doubted me. Also, a special mention goes to the other staff that played a huge role that not many others would see: Jesus Perez, Toni Jimenez, Miguel D’Agostino, and Sebastiano Pochettino. Thank you all, and good luck in the future!’’
We could have seen the potential of James under Pochettino if he had not spent most of the season injured. Because of how the Argentine managed to bring back Marc Cucurella’s form and made him the most productive player on the pitch, one wonders how James would have performed under him. James’s message signifies how important Pochettino made the 24-year-old feel at the club.
James was viewed by Pochettino as the club captain and was trusted despite missing the better part of the season due to injury. What makes the 52-year-old stand out is his propensity to put forward his optimism in young players. At Chelsea, he made sure that they nurtured a lot of young people before leaving the team.
