A View From The Bridge

“I should have scored more” – Chelsea forward admits fault in his game as he aims for ‘better’ 2nd season

Nicolas Jackson has promised he will improve his finishing next season at Chelsea

Chelsea summer signing Nicolas Jackson addressed his missed chances in matches this season and concedes he will be aiming to better his finishing next campaign. Jackson has recorded 13 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions.

With Christopher Nkunku injured and Armando Broja on loan to Fulham, Jackson has been the only Mauricio Pochettino striker option this season. but the Senegalese has been a frustrating figure at times when he has missed simple chances.

However, his goal tally this season has been decent for a player who is playing his first season in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Cole Palmer is leading the goalscoring chart with 20 strikers this season in the league, which means Jackson has a poor conversion rate of 15.6 per cent.

But the striker has acknowledged his subpar finishing this season and insisted he will make amends next season, (h/t Mirror), speaking to Sky Sports, he said:

“I think I should have scored more with the chances I missed. It’s good, but not what I wanted to be when I came—to play in the Champions League next season.’’

At least he is honest with his admission that he missed chances, which he shouldn’t have missed, and there have been games where he squandered opportunities that have cost us the game, and the Manchester City clash was the prime example where he botched three massive chances, and had those gone in, the story would have been different for us.

Nicolas Jackson says he will work on his finishing next season.

But we cannot be harsh on Jackson because it’s his first season, and his tally speaks volumes because it’s a decent number for a 22-year-old who joined a disorganised squad that is developing this season.

He has vowed to improve next season and acknowledge his mistakes, which is a great sign because he knows he possesses everything as a striker, and once he improves his finishing, we will certainly go on to become elite strikers in the future.
