A View From The Bridge

Chelsea star ready to snub Saudi Arabia interest and stay at Stamford Bridge despite recent booing from fans

Raheem Sterling has no intention of leaving Chelsea next summer and wants to prove himself

Raheem Sterling endured a frustrating evening in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Leicester City, where he missed a penalty and also squandered many brilliant Chelsea. After the forward was replaced, the fans showed their disappointment and whistled the former Manchester City star.

Amid the boos, the Blues players and Mauricio Pochettino defended the star, but this won’t continue if his patchy performance persists and subsequently, the Argentine manager will have to make a decision on the forward’s minutes on the pitch.

Sterling is 29 and is one of the highest earners at the club. The England international has been plying his trade in the Premier League for decades, but his performance has been nothing but inconsistent, which is a worrying sign.

He ought to be one of the stars who inspires these young players, but since moving here, he hasn’t been able to live up to the promise. Should this persist, the Blues will be forced to let him go and his salary off the books with no alternative.

As per Standard Sport, The former Liverpool player has been drawing interest from Saudi clubs, but the 29-year-old intends to remain at the club next season and will reject any offer from Middle East clubs as he hopes to win over the fans.

Pochettino has shown big faith in Sterling by starting him in many matches, but he hasn’t repaid that trust and has fallen short of his performance. When we have a young side, he must lead by example and be consistent in every game, but he has been poor this season.

Pochettino will have to give other players more of an opportunity if he doesn’t evolve because we won’t always be able to rely on the England international in games this season that are this important. Even though he has performed admirably in matches, he has failed to maintain this level of performance in every game.

And maybe the Blues can put the forward on sale next summer if he fails to convince the board that he still boasts plenty of qualities to be part of the club’s project next season.
