Chelsea and Newcastle United have been handed a chance to sign Spanish second-division striker Martin Braithwaite in the January transfer window. Thew West Londoners have been searching for an experienced forward who can solve their goalscoring woes on a short term basis.
According to the Evening Standard, the Blues have sounded out their interest in many strikers, such as Newcastle United star Callum Wilson, who has a release clause of £18 million.
However, despite exit speculation, the Magpies manager has made his stance clear on keeping the England international despite the Newcastle Financial Fair Play situation and the fans are also on the same side and don’t want the striker to leave.
The Danish forward is enjoying a productive spell in the Spanish second division, scoring 11 goals in 21 appearances. His performance has alerted Premier League giants such as West Ham and Wolves.
The Blues have been offered a new striker, as HITC reveals, (h/t Express). Chelsea have been informed that Barcelona striker Braithwaite is ‘available’ this month and will be a bargain as he has a £5 million release clause in his contract.
The Blues have been told to keep an eye on the forward, who has also played for English side Middlesbrough when they were in the Championship but couldn’t lead them to the English top flight and eventually left the club.
The intensity compared to the first and second divisions is different, and when he was at Barcelona, the forward struggled to score goals, which led to the Catalan giants eventually selling him. In his two seasons at Barcelona, the forward only scored 10 goals in 58 matches, and that should be enough to justify why we shouldn’t go for him.
It will be significantly harder to break into the Premier League because it looks challenging to adapt. Although Braithwaite is an accomplished striker, his inconsistent play may be the reason the Blues shouldn’t sign him. The Danish front isn’t the best fit for us, thus we should explore elsewhere for a forward who can assure us of goals during the campaign.
