Kai Havertz pens an interesting message to Chelsea fans after deciding to sign for Arsenal

The Germany international Kai Havertz writes an emotional yet weird message to Chelsea fans following the confirmation that he has signed a deal with Arsenal for a fee of around £65m.

Apart from scoring the winner in the 2021 Champions League winner for which his name is etched in the history books of the club, the former Bayer Leverkusen forward had an underwhelming time at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old scored 32 goals and assisted 15 in 139 appearances in all competitions for the Blues in his three seasons here. Those are bad numbers for a player who played most of his games as a number nine or a support striker.

Here’s what Havertz tweeted talking about his Chelsea departure:

“Dear @ChelseaFC , I would have preferred for you to hear my thoughts on leaving Chelsea first from myself before my thoughts on me joining my new team. This isn’t my style and it upsets me that you had to hear of it in this way. I write this letter with a heavy heart to all the fans. A big thank you for all your support, we achieved a dream of winning the Champions League together! Kai 💙”

To be fair to Havertz, there have been many players who have switched their allegiances from Chelsea to Arsenal and vice-versa in the last few years. Both clubs being in London probably being the main reason as players’ families may not want to move away from the English capital.

Looking at the bright side of this deal for the Blues, they have just got £65m for a player who was not doing much for them. He was tried as a false nine and it did not work. He struggled to impact games as an attacking midfielder as well.

Chelsea have already got Christopher Nkunku, who can do well as a support striker and is suited to lead the line as and when required. Moreover, they have signed a striker Nicolas Jackson who would lead the line and hopefully score the goals that Havertz did not while playing in that position.

The German did not have a good time here apart from the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City. Moving to a rival would obviously anger the majority of our club’s fans. But if he wasn’t needed at Stamford Bridge, we can’t blame him for doing what was in his personal best interest. Moreover, he wasn’t all that good as a No. 9.
