According to the Guardian, Bayern Munich could offer Real Madrid competition in the race to sign Chelsea star Kai Havertz.
The Germany international is valued at £75million by the Blues and he has two years left on his deal. It doesn’t seem likely that he will sign a new deal.
A return to Germany could prove to be beneficial for him. It is a league he knows well, and where he made his name with Bayer Leverkusen.
47 games across competitions and nine goals during that time is a statistic that makes for painful reading. That is especially dire considering he has been playing as a false nine or a No. 9 in recent months.
Playing as a target man isn’t his strongest suit. He can excel playing behind a forward and if that is something Mauricio Pochettino can get him to do, it wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Kind of like Dele Alli – a strong, tall second striker rushing in for second balls behind Harry Kane. But the aforementioned valuation isn’t something to scoff at.
Real Madrid want him as a replacement for Karim Benzema and Bayern Munich have a hole to fill after Robert Lewandowski‘s move to Barcelona last summer. These are European giants.
And it is smart that we are placing a premium price tag on a player still just 23 years old and yet to reach his prime. But we must be wary as to not accept a bargain offer if the situation turns out that way, because given the pedigree of the clubs chasing him, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Havertz tries to force a move.
