Pundit backs Chelsea contract rebel to ‘revive his career’ at Liverpool

Glen Johnson says Mason Mount can leave Chelsea if he is offered a move to Liverpool

Mason Mount’s contract negotiations with Chelsea are not yielding a favourable result from the Blues’ perspective. Due to Chelsea’s desire to sign him to a seven-year contract, the midfielder is hesitant to accept their offer.

Additionally, several clubs have already shown interest in purchasing the England international. Liverpool and Manchester United, two Premier League rivals, are rumoured to be interested in signing Mount.

The midfielder’s contract also has just 18 months left on it, (Transfermarkt), and Chelsea don’t intend for him to leave for free. However, if Mount’s current contract with the club is not resolved, Chelsea would be open to bids for him. The 24-year-old has played in 24 Premier League games, netting three goals and dishing out two assists.

Glen Johnson feels Mount could leave the club if an offer arrives from a big club.

And in a conversation with OLBG, former Chelsea player (h/t Metro.UK) suggested that Mount would leave the team in order to try to revive his career at rival clubs, saying:

“Mason Mount could definitely revive his career at Liverpool. He still has a chance at Chelsea too; the bigger players need to raise their games.”

“So the door is not shut on his Chelsea career yet, but Liverpool would bite your arm off to get him, and Mount would probably do the same to play for Liverpool.”

Selling Mount would be a tremendous loss, and if the midfielder doesn’t get enough playing time, he’ll undoubtedly leave the club, and there are plenty of interested parties.

And this would be their massive gain because Mount is still young and bursting with potential, losing him to a rival club would be much more devastating.

Mason Mount is yet to extend his contract.

And even if he has performed poorly this season, that does not define him because every player experiences a period of poor performance. If he isn’t ready to sign a long-term deal, we should instead offer a modest extension and evaluate his performance then decide his future.

This logic, of course, takes for granted that he would want to continue at SW6. There are a lot of factors that go into contract negotiations, many of which never finds its way into public discourse.

More Chelsea News:

Let us hope that he pens a new contract here and realises the opportunity and love he gets at the club. He can be a real hero here but if he moves to a direct PL rival, then perhaps he will forever lose the backing of the Chelsea faithful.
