Shakhtar sporting director confident that Mykhaylo Mudryk will be a success at Chelsea

Speaking to Football Ramble Podcast (h/t Metro), Shakhtar Donetsk sporting director Darijo Srna has predicted that Ukrainian winger Mykhaylo Mudryk will be a success at Chelsea in the near future.

Mudryk has made a subdued start to life at Stamford Bridge, with zero goals or assists in 244 minutes of football. He made an explosive debut coming off the bench against Liverpool but has struggled to make much impact after that.

Looking at how well the 22-year-old did for Shakhtar before signing for Chelsea, one can say he has the qualities to produce the goods in a Chelsea shirt as well.

Here’s what Srna said when asked about the impact the winger can make at Chelsea and the Premier League (h/t Metro):

“Everything is so simple – the market decides the price, not me and, of course, our president. Mykhailo Mudryk is, for me, one of the best three players in Europe in his position after Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, the next one is Mykhailo Mudryuk.

“Mykhailo Mudryk is from our academy, amazing kid, amazing boy, amazing player, unfortunately at Chelsea now it’s not a good mood, and Mykhailo as well, but Mykhailo has all the qualities to be one of the best players in the Premier League in the next couple of months, in the next couple of years.”

It is difficult to judge a player’s initial impact on a team when the team is struggling for form and rhythm in every facet of their game. Chelsea are yet to win a game since Mudryk made his debut, which says much more about the Blues than the player.

The Ukrainian star has the pace, dribbling skills, chance-creating vision and goals in him to do better than he has so far. But, the players around him have to find him in better positions where he can take defenders one-on-one and beat them to either assist or score a goal.

Having signed for Chelsea in the middle of a season, it is understandable that Mudryk may take a few games to settle down in the Premier League. Having a full pre-season with the squad may help him gel better with his teammates. It would also aid the manager to find the best ways to make use of him in an effective manner.

Mudryk is a young player who will get better the more he plays. Let’s judge his impact after six to eight months in a Chelsea shirt.
