Marc Cucurella praises Mykhailo Mudryk for his impactful Chelsea debut

Speaking to the Official Chelsea Website, Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella praises new signing Mykhailo Mudryk for his impactful debut against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Ukraine international, who was signed for £88.5m last weekend, came on as an early second-half substitute on Saturday to make his Chelsea debut.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk winger had an excellent last 30 minutes, tearing it up on the left-hand side and causing many problems for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Here’s what Cucurella said about the 22-year-old’s debut performance (h/t Official Chelsea Website):

“He is very good, very fast, and he played really good after training for one or two days. I think the new players have a lot of energy to play for this club.”

In the first contributions to the game, Mudryk forced the make-shift Liverpool right-back James Milner into making a desperate yellow card tackle to stop him from steaming towards the goal.

Later on, the Ukrainian dribbled past three defenders in the box only to have the shot go wide. Other than that, his overall work rate and impact in the final third were immense.

Former Manchester United right-back and legend Gary Neville tweeted in praise of the player, saying he wouldn’t want to be up against him.

So, despite the game ending in a draw for us, it felt like a step in the right direction. We were the better team away at Anfield and showed more signs of improvement than Liverpool.

If the consistency of this is kept up, we are sure to have an excellent second half of this campaign. Remember that there is still Joao Felix to come back from his suspension. And the Portuguese star looked sharp in his debut game against Fulham as well.

More Chelsea News:

Our next game is in a fortnight. Hence, there is enough gap between now and then to get some injured players back and build on this encouraging performance.
