According to Transfer Journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea will make a decision on the future of young striker David Datro Fofana in the second half of January.
The Blues completed the deal to sign the Ivory Coast striker in the early part of this month, from Norwegian side Molde. BBC reported that the deal was worth around £8m-10m.
Romano further revealed that the decision will be made whether the player’s immediate future lies here or if a potential loan move is an option. Some time will be taken before a final call is made. Till then, the 20-year-old has the chance to impress the manager Graham Potter.
Fofana had an excellent time in Norway before making this move. In his last league campaign there, he scored 15 goals and assisted five in 24 appearances for Molde. We know a striker from Molde that is taking the world by storm – a certain Erling Haaland.
If Fofana is able to match up to half of what the Norway international is doing, it would be a massive coup for Chelsea. With the qualities he possesses, it is not beyond the realms of possibility.
Looking at the dire situation of Chelsea’s forward line, especially in the number nine department, is it worth sending a striker, albeit young and raw, out on loan for the rest of this season?
Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are in horrendous form, while Armando Broja is out for the season with an ACL injury. Suspected new signing Joao Felix is not an out-and-out striker.
So, maybe, instead of sending Fofana on loan, we are better off keeping him for the rest of this season, handing him the opportunities and make a decision in the summer about a potential temporary move.
