Chelsea injury crisis deepens with Christian Pulisic being ruled out for a few weeks

According to Evening Standard, the injury situation at Chelsea worsens after manager Graham Potter confirms that Christian Pulisic is now ruled out of action for a few weeks.

The USA international went into a challenge with John Stones in the league game against Manchester City last Thursday and came off with an injury.

Early on in that game, Raheem Sterling pulled up his hamstring and was substituted. The Englishman is going to have a scan on that before the extent is revealed. Meanwhile, striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed the cup tie on Sunday due to a minor strain.

Here’s what Potter said regarding the injuries picked up by Pulisic, Sterling and Aubameyang (h/t Evening Standard):

“Christian just opened up his knee in the game the other day so we’re still analysing it. It’s going to be weeks I would say. Raheem just had an action in the first minute that game, a back heel that was a bit strange and he felt something in his hamstring. So again we are analysing that. Aubameyang had a tight back yesterday so was unable to travel.”

It is not as if Chelsea don’t already have a bunch of key players sidelined due to various injury issues, isn’t it? Reece James, who came back from a long-term injury against Bournemouth on December 27, is out until February after picking up another setback.

Ben Chilwell picked up a hamstring injury just before the World Cup and is yet to feature so far. Key midfielder N’Golo Kante has not played any part since he picked up an injury in the second game week of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.

Young striker Armando Broja did his ACL during the mid-season friendly against Aston Villa last month. Pulisic’s injury just adds to our problem up front. The 24-year-old may not be a pinned starter for us but his pace and dribbling in the final third give us options.

Summer signing Wesley Fofana, who did his knee against AC Milan in early October, became fit during the training camp in Abu Dhabi, but picked up a niggle in the friendly against Brentford last month and is out for a few weeks.

More Chelsea News:

So, it’s like this team cannot catch a break with injuries at the moment. It must be genuinely concerning. What Potter could give to have even half of these key players fit and available to him. With the current dire form of his side, he probably needs players back to start getting positive results on the spin.
