A View From The Bridge

Newcastle United seeking to land Chelsea veteran as a statement signing next January

Newcastle United want to make Chelsea star Jorginho their marquee winter signing

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United want to make Chelsea star midfielder Jorginho their marquee signing of the winter transfer window.

The Italian midfielder has been a crucial part of the Blues team this season but he has a contract that runs down come to the end of the season and he is yet to commit to a new long-term deal with the club.

Jorginho is a very talented midfielder who is a more than able deep-lying playmaker. He has been a great servant for Chelsea during his time here despite not always having fans’ backing.

Chelsea risk running down the contract of Jorginho and letting him leave on a free transfer. If nothing happens in the next few months, then the Italian would have to find pastures new come the summer.

However, Newcastle United seem to be ready to hand Chelsea a way out when it comes to Jorginho. The Premier League club want to make the Italian their marquee signing of the window.

Chelsea might not get a huge transfer fee for the Italian midfielder but they definitely would do better than losing him for free. However, the problem with this would be that they will need a replacement for the rest of the season.

Potter has shown during his time as the Blues boss that he likes to use Jorginho in his team. It remains to be seen if the former Brighton man agrees to sell the Italian star without a genuine replacement.

Chelsea have a huge decision to make with Jorginho. They either take the bait that Newcastle are offering them and sell him on for a fee or decide to play the waiting game and risk losing him for free.
