“Superb free option”- Liverpool urged to sign two Chelsea midfielders

Transfer News: Brad Friedel urges Liverpool to sign Chelsea duo of Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante

Former Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel has urged Liverpool to sign the Chelsea duo of Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante. The Reds along with Juventus are interested in Mount.

The England international has only 18 months remaining in his current contract and is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms. Kante, meanwhile sees his current contract expire next summer.

Now, while speaking to Betway (h/t Express), the former Villa and Rovers keeper has urged Liverpool to swoop in for the Blues duo.

“Mason Mount would do a lot of good for Liverpool. It’s a no brainer for [Jurgen] Klopp if it works for both clubs. Mount is an exceptional player and the only time it would be a no brainer for Klopp is if it works financially for Chelsea and Liverpool.”

“Kante could be a superb free option for Liverpool if they can’t get a deal over the line for [Jude] Bellingham or [Frenkie] De Jong – but he’d have to play. If a player like N’Golo Kante comes along on a free then he’s going to have to play. Kante is really good. There’s been some injury issues, sure, but he’s outstanding.”

Kante has struggled with fitness this season. The 31-year-old has only featured twice this season for the Blues and it is looking unlikely that Chelsea will offer him a new deal.

Mount, meanwhile seems to be coming back to his form with the midfielder a crucial player for Graham Potter. The 23-year-old has featured in 21 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting another six in the process.

Despite the difference between the two players, it would not be wise for the Blues to let either of them leave to join a rival club. Kante is still one of the best players in the world, while Mount is nearing the age to his prime.

If the west London club do want to sell either of the duo, it will be wise to sell them to someone outside the Premier League. It remains to be seen if the Reds make any move for either of the midfielders in January or next summer.
