Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta insists he will not swap any of his Blues trophies for the FIFA World Cup

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has insisted that he would not swap any of his Blues trophies for the FIFA World Cup. The 33-year-old although wants to add that trophy to his already full cabinet.

Azpilicueta became the first Blues player to lift every club trophy with the west London club this year by adding the Club World Cup to his tally. The Spaniard only has the World Cup to add to his cabinet now.

Speaking to The Telegraph, the 33-year-old who is in Qatar for the tournament has insisted that he won’t swap any of his trophies with Chelsea for the World Cup.

“Why would I swap any trophies? I want to get another one, this one if I can. I made my debut for Spain against Uruguay here in Qatar, in Doha, in 2013, so it would be a good story for me to win the World Cup here. We have a brilliant opportunity.”

“We have an amazing group, we can play our football and after that it’s a tournament where you cannot make any mistakes, where you have to start well and small details make the difference. We will try our best and, of course, I’d love to add this trophy to my cabinet.”

The Spanish international joined the west London club back in 2012 from French side Olympique Marseille for just £6.5 million. Since then, the defender who is capable of playing anywhere at the back has played 493 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and assisting another 56 in the process.

He was linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, but nothing came of such rumours. Instead, the Chelsea captain signed a new two-year deal with the west London club.

Azpilicueta has featured 17 times this season in all competitions and seems to be part of Graham Potter’s plan for this season. His good form has earned him a call-up with the national team for the World Cup and this will be his third time in the tournament.

More Chelsea News:

Spain could be considered one of the favourites to lift the cup at the end of the tournament next month. Fans will hope that their club captain can win it and complete his trophy cabinet.
