Report: Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi makes key career decision

Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi chooses to represent Ghana over England at the international level

According to football.london, Chelsea forward Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to switch his international allegiances to Ghana. He is joined in doing so by his England youth teammate and Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah.

Despite appearing in a friendly against the Czech Republic when he was 18, Hudson-Odoi has yet to make a competitive appearance for the senior England side under Gareth Southgate. This switch will make the people of Ghana happy, as they have gained an exciting young talent ahead of the FIFA World Cup later this year.

In September 2020, a FIFA rule change permitted players with no more than three international caps to shift their allegiance to other nations if those caps were earned before they turned 21. Both men’s prospects of playing in this year’s World Cup in Qatar will have increased thanks to their decision.

Will this affect his prospects at Chelsea?

Hudson-Odoi is having a revival at Chelsea, and all eyes will be on where his international future rests. He has been out of action for weeks with an injury and may not be available for the remainder of the season. Whether he will play any role in our remaining games this season will be seen.

Despite his potential, Hudson-Odoi has struggled to take the next step in his development at Chelsea. Hopefully with his international allegiance settled, he can now focus on getting his club career back on track.

At 21, the youngster still has a long career ahead of him. With the right application and effort there is nor reason why he can not develop into a key player for Chelsea.

Chelsea could have utilised Hudson considering Romelu Lukaku’s poor form. But unfortunately, he couldn’t recover from the Injury on time and missed out on opportunities.

Now that Lukaku has come back to scoring ways, it will be difficult for Hudson to get back into the starting eleven. But his switch to Ghana would provide him with an opportunity to play in the World Cup and make a mark in world football.
