Blues legend plans to raid Chelsea for ‘highly-rated’ coach if he becomes manager at PL club

Frank Lampard wants Chelsea coach as Norwich job talks continue

According to Express, former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is planning to lure highly-rated Joe Edwards with him to Norwich City, if he is appointed as manager of the Premier League side.

Norwich, who are bottom of the Premier League after 11 games, are in talks with the Chelsea legend over succeeding Daniel Farke, who they fired last week. Norwich have only managed to win once all season and are one of the favourites to get relegated at the end of this campaign.

Lampard was himself fired by Chelsea last January and has been out of a job since then, but the Englishman has held productive talks with the Canaries.

Frank Lampard is keen to return to coaching.

Lampard is keen to return to management and if he decides to join the Canaries, he is looking to bring Edwards on board. Edwards was part of Lampard’s backroom staff during his time at Chelsea and has remained a first-team coach under Thomas Tuchel ever since.

Edwards is being seen as the first-choice assistant ahead of the Chelsea legend’s potential appointment at Carrow Road.

Lampard was appointed as Chelsea’s coach in 2019 after starting his coaching stint at Derby in 2018. The former England midfielder almost took Derby into the Premier League in his debut season.

During his first season in charge – Chelsea were under transfer restrictions but he did well to promote academy players into the first team. He helped Chelsea finish top-four in the Covid-hit season and at the same time managed to reach the finals of the FA Cup. However, he eventually lost the final to Arsenal.

However, in the following year – despite spending big Lampard struggled in the league and was hired in the middle of the season. He was replaced by German Thomas Tuchel, who led the team to Champions League glory and even managed to finish fourth in the Premier League on the final day of the season.

And now, he can come to raid his former club for a talented and acclaimed coach. If Tuchel or Roman Abramovich have a say in the matter, then the club should look to keep on board the backroom staff that has combined so well to help the Blues succeed on the pitch.
