According to Calciomercato (h/t Mirror), Chelsea have made the first move to sign RB Salzburg’s young striker Karim Adeyemi. The Blues have begun talks with the youngster’s agent as they look to bolster their frontline.
Chelsea are apparently ‘hopeful’ of pulling off the coup and plan to hold further meetings with the player’s camp, with Inter Milan also interested.
The teenager is one of the most talked-about strikers in Europe and a number of clubs are vying for Salzburg’s signature. The youngster still has a contract at Salzburg until 2024 – but that has not backed down the west Londoners.
Salzburg, over the recent years, have produced top-quality players like Erling Haaland, Naby Keita, and Patson Daka. Adeyemi is the recent name who has garnered a lot of attention of late.
He already has scored 11 goals in 13 league matches so far this season and could be an ideal understudy to Timo Werner, another German striker at Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old is already a full-fledged Germany international and has taken his game to the next level this term.
Werner, since his move to Chelsea last season has struggled to fire in all cylinders and is finding it difficult to have game time under coach Thomas Tuchel. The German striker is even linked with a loan move to Barcelona in January and if he does move away from Chelsea, Adeyemi could be a useful replacement for him.
Chelsea, have previously failed to sign Adeyemi, with their interest in him going back in 2018, right around the time he joined Salzburg. Back in 2018, Adeyemi was coming up through the SpVgg Unterhaching academy, a fourth-tier German club back in his hometown of Munich.
