Transfer News: Mourinho eyeing Chelsea duo including 25-year-old midfielder

AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho eager to secure transfer for Chelsea duo Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek

According to Corriere Dello Sport (h/t football.london), AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a transfer for Chelsea duo Antonio Rudiger and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The former Chelsea boss made a lot of enemies after he joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 before being sacked by the North London club earlier this year.

The Portuguese joined AS Roma in the summer and made a couple of big-name signings, including securing a deal for Chelsea star Tammy Abraham, who is flourishing under him. However, he may not be the only Blues star that joins up with Mourinho in Italy. The 58-year-old is now plotting a move for duo Antonio Rudiger & Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The German centre-back is in the final year of his contract and is yet to agree on a new deal with the west London outfit. If Rudiger fails to put pen to paper on a new contract by the end of 2021, he would be eligible to talk to foreign clubs in January over a potential free transfer next summer.

The 28-year-old has prior history with the Italian club, having spent a couple of seasons at the Stadio Olimpico before making the move to Stamford Bridge in 2017.

25-year-old Loftus-Cheek, on the other hand, was sent on several loan moves before he nailed down a spot in the senior squad this season. The Englishman is playing like a gazelle in central midfield and is finally living up to his full potential.

While Tuchel might be able to do very little about Rudiger leaving the club, he would be keen on keeping the Englishman. Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are 30 or shall turn so next year while the London club might not seal a permanent move for Saul Niguez.

Thus, keeping a relatively young and hungry central midfielder like Loftus-Cheek at the club makes a lot of sense. The Stamford Bridge outfit could also rule out a move for their German ace if they tie him down to a new contract.
