Chelsea duo Thomas Tuchel and Ben Chilwell nominated for Premier League monthly awards

As confirmed by the Premier League’s official Twitter handle, Chelsea have two nominations for the Premier League monthly awards for October.

The Blues are in top form and currently occupy the first position in the Premier League. This has been facilitated not just by excellent management by Thomas Tuchel but also by several of his top players stepping up.

One of them is Ben Chilwell who appears to be going through a purple patch of form. The English international started off the season behind Marcos Alonso in the club’s left-back spot. He has however risen to the challenge and is now showing exactly what he can do.

Chilwell played every minute of Chelsea’s four Premier League matches in October. He not only impressed defensively as the Blues kept three clean sheets but also on the other end by scoring three goals.

His proficiency in the duel role is a boon for Tuchel whose attack has appeared lacklustre at times. The fact that other players can step up and make a difference could be pivotal come to the business end of the season.

Chilwell is an excellent contender for the Premier League Player of the Month Award. He will compete against former Chelsea starlet Tony Livramento, Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah, West Ham Untied duo Declan Rice and Maxwel Cornet, Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, Manchester City sensation Phil Foden and Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The Chelsea boss is too in the frame for the Premier League Manager of the Month Award following a 100 per cent record in October. He is up against Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, West Ham’s David Moyes and Crystal Palace’s Patrick Vieira.

Given the gravitas the German has had on the Premier League title race, it is fair to say that he deserved to win the monthly gong. Tuchel last won the award in March 2021.

Chelsea academy graduate Livramento is also enjoying an excellent spell at Southampton and is in the fray for the Player of the Month Award. The fact that he is in the reckoning speaks volumes of the growth he has shown at St Mary’s.
