According to transfer news from Sport Witness, Chelsea are best positioned to sign Jules Kounde. It has been said that Manchester City’s bid for him was rejected last summer while Real Madrid signing him are dependent on the exit of Ramos or Varane, thereby leaving Chelsea in the free to sign him.
Chelsea are looking at defensive options, with some players like Silva and Azpilicueta at the fag end of their careers. Kounde is among the names being considered by the Blues and Tuchel. Adding a new defender has become a priority, with Tuchel switching to a back three.
Kounde has made a name for himself in the short while he has been at Sevilla. That has encouraged teams from all over Europe to keep an eye on him and clubs are trying to sign him. It has been said that Kounde has a £78million release clause but they can be tempted to reduce it if a player is received in exchange.
It has been reported that Kounde had several suitors including Chelsea. However, City’s bid was rejected last summer. That left Chelsea and Real Madrid in the chase but the latter are only going to sign him if either Ramos or Varane leave. Chelsea have not such prerequisites and are, hence, the best-positioned club to sign Kounde.
With Tuchel switching to a back three, it does make sense to go after at least one new centre-back. Furthermore with Silva’s contract expiring at the end of the season, bringing in a new defender should be high on the agenda. And there are few better prospects available than Kounde available in the market.
