According to transfer news from the club’s official site, Chelsea are interested in signing Adrien Rabiot. The Juventus midfielder could leave the club in the summer for a reported £17million. However, Chelsea will have to fend off interest from the likes of Barcelona to sign him.
The 26-year-old joined Juventus in the summer of 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer. However, he has had a difficult couple of years in Turin as he has failed to make the kind of impact expected. Rabiot has largely been a regular in the lineup this season, making 41 appearances in which he has there goals.
However, his uninspiring displays in the middle has led to Juventus deciding to consider letting go of the Frenchman at the end of the season. It is said that the Bianconeri value the former PSG star at around £17million, which has now sparked the interest of Chelsea as well as Barcelona.
While it would have been interesting to see Rabiot reunite with his former manager, Chelsea are overstacked in midfield. As things stand, Chelsea have four first-team central midfielders in N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Billy Gilmour. We will also have several midfielders returning from their loan spells at the end of the season.
Chelsea have decent names in midfield to call upon, but a refresh next summer could be needed. Rabiot may not be performing at his best but he is still a regular under Andrea Pirlo. It’s just that the club are looking to sell some players and bring in some new options.
