According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web (h/t Daily Star), Juventus are interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Jorginho and are prepared to allow Aaron Ramsey move the other way as part of a swap deal.
Jorginho arrived at Chelsea in 2018 from Serie A side Napoli. The Italian international had a fairly decent debut season in England, but seemed to have stepped it up a notch under Frank Lampard at the onset of the 2019/20 campaign.
So much so that the midfielder was made vice-captain by the new boss. However, he has fallen down the pecking order of late, and wouldn’t have been part of the starting XI in recent matches if not for injuries to N’Golo Kante and Billy Gilmour.
Juventus have been interested in signing him ever since Maurizio Sarri swapped London for Turin last summer. The Italian champions have now offered former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey in a direct swap deal for Napoli. (h/t Daily Star)
Ramsey left our rivals last summer, joining Juventus on a free transfer. However, his time in Italy hasn’t gone according to plans, with the Welshman failing to establish himself under Sarri.
As a result, they are willing to let him go, offering him to Chelsea in order land Jorginho. And while Chelsea are reportedly open to selling the Italian, they have rejected Juve’s proposal, with the club demanding cash for the midfielder. (h/t Daily Star)
The fact that Lampard dropped Jorginho in favour of Gilmour is clearly a sign of things to come. So, offloading the Italian this summer wouldn’t be a major blow.
Furthermore, it would also help us generate cash that can be used to fund moves for the other transfer targets. Thus, a swap for Ramsey wouldn’t really make much sense given our riches in the midfield department.
