Chelsea target isn’t thinking about moving clubs yet

Callum Wilson has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but he isn’t thinking about leaving Bournemouth yet (h/t Sky Sports).

The Cherries are 18th in the Premier League and are in danger of relegation. Eddie Howe’s team have struggled for results despite having a decent side, and Wilson has only scored 9 times this season.

The 28-year-old England international was asked about links with Chelsea from the past and the forward claimed those were flattering (h/t Sky Sports):

“Of course it is flattering, they are great clubs, massive clubs in the league.”

Wilson added that he doesn’t pay too much attention to such rumours and that this only encourages him to do well on the pitch. However, he put aside all transfer talk for now as his aim was to keep the Cherries in the Premier League:

“Any player would like to play in the Champions League and progress, that’s what I’ve based my whole career on.

“First and foremost is obviously keeping Bournemouth up and safe and I haven’t been good enough this season to even be talking about things like that.

“I put it to the back of my mind and tried to focus on myself.”

Chelsea’s striker problem

The Blues have a quality forward in Tammy Abraham but the Englishman has tailed off a bit in the second part of the campaign.

Olivier Giroud can do a decent job but at 33, he doesn’t have many years at the top level. The other problem we have is Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian is talented but has never been able to cement his place in this Chelsea team.

Frank Lampard needs another forward option, especially if we sell either Batshuayi or Giroud in the summer. Although Wilson isn’t the most glamorous name in the league, he would provide decent cover to Abraham.

We could make his Champions League dreams come true as we lie fourth in the standings. However, it will be interesting to see if Wilson can fire the Cherries to safety when the campaign resumes.
