Frank Lampard admits besting Jose Mourinho was his moment of the season
As reported by the Express, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted beating Jose Mourinho was his highlight of the season.
The Blues boss has had to overcome a number of obstacles during his first season in charge of the club. Lampard had to maneuver through a transfer ban and the COVID-19 pandemic in trying circumstances.
Despite the issues, he ensured the club finished in the top four while also guiding us to the FA Cup final.
Lampard admitted that his side’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in December last year holds a special place in his heart.
“I’ll admit the fact that when we were sitting in the staff room afterwards there was patting on the back.”
Managed by former Chelsea boss Mourinho, Spurs could have closed the gap on the top four with a win. A shrewd tactician, Mourinho’s strengths would have been familiar to Lampard who played under him at Chelsea.
Lampard admitted that his side came up with a plan to contain Spurs and it worked a peach. It isi a satisfying experience to see a plan come together and the Blues bos experienced just that at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. (h/t Express)
“When you work through the week and see how the players put out that plan on the pitch and perform, it was one of the proudest moments of the season.”
The Chelsea manager has an impressive 100 percent win rate against his former boss. He first defeated Mourinho during his stint at Derby County.
Lampard followed that up with a double over the Portuguese in the Premier League last season. Both losses helped bring Spurs’ top-four hopes to a grinding halt, much to the amusement of Chelsea fans.
