According to WalesOnline, Swansea City are keen to sign Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi on loan ahead of the 2020-21 season.
The 20-year-old joined the Swans on an 18-month loan in January this year. Despite a year left on the deal, the extended portion cannot be fully registered and confirmed until the start of the 2020/21 season. (h/t Football.london)
Guehi made 14 appearances and played a key role as Swansea looked to gain promotion to the Premier League. He gained prominence in the last few weeks as the left-sided defender in Steve Cooper’s back three.
Unfortunately, the season ended in pain as the Swans were defeated by Brentford in the Championship playoffs.
According to the report, Swansea do not anticipate there being any issues over a potential return for Guehi. Chelsea, however, do have the right to keep the defender on at Stamford Bridge they wish so.
The youngster came through the Chelsea youth system. He has made two appearances for the Blues, both coming in the Carabao Cup last season.
Guehi has enjoyed considerable success at the youth level. He was a part of Chelsea’s treble-winning Under-18 side in 2016/17. He also captained the England Under-17 side to within a whisker of the Europan Championships in 2017. (h/t Chelsea FC)
The following year would prove kinder as he featured prominently as England won the Under-17 World Cup. Guehi scored in the final as the three Lions saw off Spain 5-2. (h/t Chelsea FC)
There is little doubt regarding Guehi’s ability. The youngster has a lot of potential and could turn into a leading defender if he continues developing.
