West Ham United want at least £80million for Chelsea target Declan Rice
According to The Times, West Ham United have named their asking price for prime Chelsea transfer target, Declan Rice.
The Hammers are seeking a mammoth £80million at the very least for their prized possession.
The 21-year-old started off at Chelsea before being released by the club at the age of 14. Having made his name across the City at West Ham, he is today one of England’s best young players.
Primarily a defensive midfielder, Rice is an equally adept central defender. Frank Lampard sees him as a player who can help re-energize a flagging Chelsea backline.
The Blues boss is a fan of Rice’s leadership qualities, something that has been sorely lacking in our backline. According to a report by the Express, Chelsea will make a move for Rice once they bring the Kai Havertz saga to an end.
Chelsea were believed to have made a £50m bid for Rice. However, this was denied by West Ham who are keen hold of their star man.
The Blues have however been given some hope by West Ham’s willingness to sell Rice provided their asking price is met. Provided we meet it, it will make the youngster Chelsea’s record signing.
Doing so will significantly add to our summer spending spree. Chelsea have already brought in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for a combined £90m.
Elevated prices seem to be the norm this summer. Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell, both of who are also on Chelsea’s wish list are reported to cost £90m and £80m respectively.
With Chelsea not immune to the current financial crisis plaguing the sport, it remains to be seen how the club approaches the potential signings.

Rice has a long-term contract at West Ham that runs until 2024. The Hammers also have the option of extending it by another year putting them in a strong position when it comes to negotiations.
Whether Cheslea get their man remains to be seen. It could prove to be a triumphant return for the former Chelsea starlet.
