Renato Veiga has completed the first training session with Chelsea
New Chelsea signing Renato Veiga has shared with the fans what to expect from him in the upcoming season. The young Portuguese winger was the sixth signing of the club in the summer. He signed a seven-year contract with the club, which Chelsea can avail his services until 2031.
Chelsea has once again created waves in the transfer market by hoarding a number of players in a short span, The West London club have already completed six signings in the summer, including Renato Vega from FC Basel. The player has attended his first training session at Cobham under Chelsea’s new coach Enzo Maresca.
The youngster is a Sporting Academy graduate, and the academy has contributed a number of talents to world football including Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. The 20-year-old has experience playing in the top-flight leagues with Augsburg and Basel as a loanee. The defender has impressed in the last campaign with the Swiss side by scoring two goals and an assist in 26 games across all competitions. He attracted the West London club with his ability to read the game, coupled with defensive awareness and the ability to anticipate attacking moves.
The player has shared his first training experience and tells the fans what to expect from him in the upcoming season in the upcoming season through an interview with the club.
“I’m a smart, aggressive player. I’m comfortable on the ball and I would describe myself as a complete player due to my versatility. I’m comfortable in many positions on the pitch.
“I wouldn’t say I have a favourite position because it depends on the opponent or tactical elements, but I have played at left-back, centre-back and as a defensive midfielder.
“I like to defend a lot and with my height and physical strength, I enjoy it. I like to control the game with or without the ball.”
Chelsea set to bolster the midfield
The manager also has huge interest in players who can handle multiple positions in the squad. Veiga is a versatile midfielder who has proved his ability in multiple positions in the centre of the park.
The major decisions will be taken after the pre-season tour and all the new additions could feature in the pre-season matches and after the assessment of Maresca, the club could loan out Veiga for more experience in the summer. The club is preparing for the next moves as the season begins in the next month.
