Chelsea eye €60m-rated winger as Champions League quest heats up

Will Chelsea break the bank for wonderkid Doue?

Chelsea are among the long list of clubs linked with a move for French prodigy Desire Doue in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The West Londoners are incurring a busy transfer window after already making six signings this summer following the announcement of Renato Veiga from Swiss side FC Basel last Friday.

Despite already sealing a number of signings, Chelsea are looking to add more numbers to Enzo Maresca’s squad this summer in order to give the former Manchester City assistant the best setup for getting back into the Champions League next season.

While the central priorities at Stamford Bridge have been a winger and a striker coming into the summer transfer window, the Blues have been linked with a host of players from across Europe.

Winger wanted?

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Rennes ace Doue this summer, with L’Equipe reporting that the French outfit wants more than €60 million for the 19-year-old. The report also states that Rennes rejected a €35 million approach from Bayern Munich for Doue, while French giants PSG are also keeping a keen eye on the developments.

Doue only has a couple of years left on his current deal at Rennes Stadium, and the ongoing window looks like the best opportunity to secure a substantial transfer fee for him. The French outfit is known for producing excellent talent. They have produced the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Eduardo Camavinga, Mathys Tel, and Lesley Ugochukwu over the years.

Desire Doue is primarily a left-winger, although his versatility means he can play as an attacking midfielder and on the right wing as well.
