Benjamin Sesko agent reveals Chelsea were tempted to make their move
Elvis Basanovic, the agent of Benjamin Sesko has revealed how Chelsea and Arsenal were keen on signing him before inking a new deal with RB Leipzig. The Slovenian striker enjoyed an excellent 2023-24 campaign, netting 14 goals in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea and Arsenal were interested in signing him because of his remarkable exploits, but their efforts were thwarted by his recent contract extension, thus it appears the forward will stay with the German team. Maybe next campaign the Blues will hope to make another attempt for his signing.
Sesko would have been a bargain for both Chelsea and Arsenal, given his affordable £55 million release clause. However, despite big interest from clubs, the forward has made a difficult decision about his playing career and seems like he doesn’t want to rush things into his career.
His agent explained how the player had to go through a difficult time to make a wise move regarding the striker’s career, as his representative Elvis Basanovic wrote on Instagram, which read via Evening Standard:
“As a football agent, it’s easy to talk about developing top talents… until you are faced with great temptation. In that moment, your values and vision are truly tested.’’
His agent’s comments are understandable, as he is just 20 and far from being a complete striker. This season, he had a breakout campaign, showcasing his talent, but moving to a league as different from the Bundesliga as the Premier League can be challenging. The intensity is higher, and it takes time to adapt to the new style of play.
Had Sesko come to Chelsea, he would already be under immense pressure to score goals immediately. It’s important for young players to have time to adjust and develop without the added burden of immediate expectations.
