Dominic Calvert-Lewin unlikely to join Chelsea as Blues prioritize striker search

According to The Athletic, Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but he is unlikely to join the club this summer. Although the Blues want to recruit a new striker, the English star does not appear to be the person for the job.

The Toffees star has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United as the Magpies look to add some attacking depth. But one thing is certain: if Calvert-Lewin is looking to leave Everton after eight years, it will not be to join Maresca in West London.

The 27-year-old Calvert-Lewin has scored 68 goals for Everton since his move from Sheffield United in 2016. While an extremely good player on his day, injuries and a general lack of consistency have set him back in recent years.

Enzo Maresca is starting his new job as manager of the club at the start of the 2024-25 season, and he is analysing his striking options ahead of the forthcoming transfer window, with Nicholas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Romelu Lukaku, and Armando Broja all currently on the books.

Chelsea is not satisfied with their current attacking options and has been linked with several players, including Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko, Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk. Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to return to the first team after loan spells at Inter Milan and Roma, while Armando Broja has been linked with a transfer elsewhere.

Both Everton and Chelsea are in discussions regarding Broja, but a transfer will only be possible if Everton can secure the necessary finances. This might involve the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has attracted interest from several teams.

Chelsea is not in a hurry to sign anyone before Broja competes for Albania in the European Championship. Whether he will change the club’s mind with a series of inspired performances remains to be seen.

Chelsea are prioritizing signing a center forward this summer to bolster their chances of finishing in the top four during Enzo Maresca’s debut season at the club.

The Blues have struggled to secure a natural center forward. They have tracked Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a long time, while RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who was previously contacted, has decided to stay with his current club.
