Journo: "It wouldn't be a surprise" if Chelsea re-sign 21-goal striker to boost frontline

Dominic Solanke’s Chelsea reunion amid 21-goal season at Bournemouth

European football journalist Dean Jones has been speculating where Dominic Solanke may go next, and he has claimed that it would not be shocking if Chelsea re-signed the English striker.

Dean Jones has shed light on Solanke’s transfer rumours. The transfer expert suggested where the talented striker could end up on the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast. Jones stated:

“Another striker Dominic Solanke being spoken about in The Athletic. He has a release clause of £65m in his contract and it can only be activated by certain clubs.

Interesting that is. They say that Solanke is being tracked across this season, but his release clause is limited to a select group of sides and the identity of those teams is undisclosed.

I haven’t dug into this one yet, it’s definitely one for me to look further into today.

He’s been brilliant and Bournemouth won’t want to lose him but the player’s head would be turned if there was serious interest in him. It wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea again or Newcastle were to look in his direction.”

Solanke had the finest season of his career last year, scoring 21 goals for Bournemouth across all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League, and the England striker is claimed to have a club-specific £65m release clause, per Jones.

He began his career at Chelsea’s academy as a highly touted youngster, although he only made one first-team appearance for the club before leaving in 2017. After two years with Liverpool, he found a permanent home on the south coast with Bournemouth.

The Bournemouth player has revealed that he looked up to Chelsea legend Drogba as a player. They even shared the same locker room during Solanke’s previous tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Now that the summer transfer window is fast approaching, Chelsea are being linked with a host of different centre-forwards that they may try to bring to Stamford Bridge on a priority basis.

Claims made by Jones have backed up Solanke’s reunion at Chelsea, and the striker could be seen at Stamford Bridge wearing the squad number of his idol.

It is believed that the release clause applies to the traditional ‘big six’ teams, with Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool all entitled to activate it this summer.
