Vincent Kompany closing in on Jonathan Tah deal at Bayern which could force out Chelsea target

Chelsea target Dayot Upamecano could be available after latest Vincent Kompany decision

According to a report from Bild (as captured by Metro), Vincent Kompany is getting close to signing Jonathan Tah and may need to get rid of Chelsea target Dayot Upamecano to make room for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Speculation mounting suggests Upamecano move again ahead of the 2024/25 season, with the France international experiencing a difficult spell in Munich.

Bayern Munich’s four centre-backs are all right-footed: Matthias de Ligt, Kim Min-jae, Eric Dier, and Dayot Upamecano.

Now the club has been looking for a left-footed centre-back—or even someone who can play there regardless of their dominant foot implying that one of the centre-backs will need to be moved.

Following this, Vincent Kompany has recently been connected with Bayer Leverkusen’s star centre-back to secure him at Munich.

Chelsea, currently commanded by Enzo Maresca, have made their interest clear and are currently looking to make strategic moves to capture the former Leipzig centre-back.

RB Leipzig’s centre-back, Dayot Upamecano, arrived at Bayern Munich with high hopes in 2021 after a €42.5m transfer.

The 25-year-old Frenchman had a strong start following a series of poor showings during the latter half of the season. He made 114 appearances in three years at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany has stated that he intends to construct a good team but has declined to reveal the specifics of his summer transfer objectives.

Upamecano’s current contract with Munich expires in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt), and potential suitors are expected to pay more than £40 million for the defender.

However, the player himself feels happy in Bayern and at least wants to continue for one or two more seasons.

The centre-back’s future will eventually be decided by Vincent Kompany, Bayern’s new manager, who took over from Thomas Tuchel last week.
