Mauricio Pochettino hopes to fix Chelsea next season
Mauricio Pochettino has used the famous Cole Play song Fix You as a reference to Chelsea’s performance this season and feels the club is stuck in reverse. The Blues will face Brighton & Hove Albion, which will be their penultimate match of the season.
Hopes are high for the Argentine manager to steer the Blues to Europa League qualification, as they are currently seventh in the league and points equal with Newcastle United, who are sixth.
But things may have been different; the Blues might have been in sixth or fifth place if they hadn’t lost the games that they could have won. Their inability to maintain their winning streak and lack of consistency are the key causes of this.
Acknowledging this issue, the former Tottenham Hotspur manager related the Blues’ current situation to Cold Play’s Fix You and told the reporter ahead of the match via Standard Sport:
“It’s now like we are stuck in reverse, like the song by Coldplay. We always stop and go back [to negative times]. It’s like we are stuck in reverse. I like Coldplay; the song is Fix You’’.
This has been the reality of the season because our performance has shown signs that we are improving, but in the next match, it shows there are plenty of things to refine if we want to compete for trophies next season.
Due to the young age of our group, this will continue to occur. Even if they play the entire season, this team will still have shortcomings the following year, which will only be addressed if the club makes smart acquisitions and provides Pochettino with more experienced players.
