FFP woes force Chelsea sale? Newcastle United target Josh Acheampong
Chelsea have a need to sell to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules, and multiple clubs are looking to take away players from Stamford Bridge and use the Blues need to sell to their advantage. Newcastle United are one of those clubs looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s situation as they look to sign another highly rated youngster from Cobham Academy.
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for highly rated midfielder Conor Gallagher; however, the Toons have expressed deeper interests in Mauricio Pochetino‘s roster. The Toons are looking to Chelsea teenager Josh Acheampong, per a report in Miguel Delaney’s Reading the Game newsletter.
Will Newcastle United snatch Josh Acheampong from Chelsea?
Acheampong has been a name ringing around West London of late, following his senior debut for the Blues against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month. The 18-year-old already has a professional contract at Stamford Bridge, having put pen to paper earlier this year.
He is a right-back by trade, however, and is rated as having a versatile profile, which is something that Eddie Howe prefers to work with. However, it would not be easy for Newcastle United to take him to St. James Park, as Premier League rivals Spurs have also expressed interest, along with three of the four Champions League semi-finalists who have been looking at him.

Chelsea are bound to lose someone or another this summer, and maybe selling an academy starlet could be better from the first-team perspective than a marquee player in Pochettino’s squad.
