Chelsea pull out of race to appoint Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as their head coach

According to the Daily Mail, via Eurosport, Chelsea seems to have distanced themselves in pursuit of Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim as Liverpool gains momentum to make the Portuguese manager their next gaffer.

The Blues have underperformed under Mauricio Pochettino, and their recent 2-2 draw against Sheffield United highlighted many worrying signs about whether the Argentine manager is the ideal candidate to lead this young Chelsea side.

The Blues are currently ninth in the table, and the board hopes the Argentine manager will be able to secure the European spot for next season, but the inconsistent performance casts doubt on whether they will be able to achieve a place in the European tournament.

Besides, many managers have been linked with the Blues job, but it will be uncertain if any head coach will be ready to take charge of such a young squad full of flaws. Pochettino may not be the ideal one, but he has made tremendous changes, and given another season with a set of experienced players, maybe he will be able to achieve the club’s objectives next season.

Although Amorim deserves praise for his work at Sporting, many doubt that he will be able to turn this Chelsea team around. He has led Sporting CP to unprecedented heights this season, he currently seems too young to be the manager of this Chelsea team.

Additionally, his only real rival in the Portuguese League is Benfica; in contrast, in the Premier League he will have to alter his approach to align with the league’s intensity and with this young squad it will certainly take a season or more.

Similar to how it took three or four years for Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola, and Jurgen Klopp to build their teams into strong ones, Chelsea’s supporters will not be amused if you attempt to achieve the same thing with them because they demand immediate results. Therefore, it would be best if the Blues kept their distance and gave the Argentine manager a chance till the end of the season before deciding what to do with him going forward.
