Chelsea among London trio in Nico Williams chase
Any incomings at the Bridge are subject to the transfer fees that Todd Boehly & Co. can generate with the sales owing to the pressure from Financial Fair Play rules at Chelsea. While Chelsea prioritizes signing a centre-forward when the summer transfer window comes by with the likes of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, they are chasing another high potential winger in Nico Williams.
Chelsea will be chasing a trio of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa for Nico Williams’ signatures. The 21-year-old signed a new three-year contract at the Basque club in the conclusive months of the last year to preserve his value as his contract at San Mamés was about to expire in the offseason as the Spaniard has a £43m release clause in his new deal.
While the London trio express their interest in Nico Williams, Aston Villa have been vying to sign him for some time now. The Villians tried to test the waters of Athletic Club’s Williams resolutely as they activated his release clause last January and Summer although the 21-year-old rejected any potential move to the Midlands.
There were reports about Unai Emery flying to the Basque nation to sit down in a private meeting with Nico Williams to make an effort to pursue his signatures last June but the Spaniard stayed put about his decision to stay at San Mamés.
La Liga giants Real Madrid are also vying for a move for the 21-year-old Spanish international who has netted six goals and boasts a tally of 11 assists in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.
