Raheem Sterling is confident ahead of Chelsea vs Liverpool Carabao Cup
Chelsea played some beautiful football against Manchester City last week.
The Blues from London matched City shoulder to shoulder on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, one of the toughest fixtures on the Premier League schedule list.
Mauricio Pochettino’s vertical tactics caught Manchester City by surprise on multiple occasions. Raheem Sterling and Nikolas Jackson had chances to put the game to bed after that City opener. Chelsea weren’t able to do so and they let Manchester City into the game before Rodri eventually equalized from a deflected shot.
Big day at Wembley Stadium on Sunday
Chelsea have played poorly this season. Their inconsistent performances throughout the season have left them tenth in the Premier League table.
Despite so, they have an opportunity to win a title. Mauricio Pochettino can uplift the club with League Cup silverware in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will be chasing Liverpool after an impressive performance against Manchester City. They will take confidence from that City game and come into Wembley with more belief that they can beat Liverpool.
Raheem Sterling wants to use that performance to build confidence in the team going forward.
“I wanted to show myself against City and we were unlucky we couldn’t get the win against them. We’re a young group and that performance will build confidence going forward. But I’ve always said these are the challenges that we need to step up to. Against some of the top-four teams this season we have shown ourselves. Liverpool away was obviously a disappointing one but against Tottenham, Arsenal and City we have shown ourselves — and we have to keep building.”
The Blues will be determined to prove that the performance at Anfield on January 31 was not who they are. Raheem Sterling says the team is hurt and looking for revenge when they meet the Reds this Sunday.
“The Liverpool defeat definitely hurt. We will try to do a lot better this time. We’re getting stronger and the most important thing is to try to compete for trophies. And this week we have got a great opportunity to do that and I’m looking forward to it.”
