Chelsea’s under-whelming performance has been met with lot of critiques lately, but Pochettino can still make the season count

Mauricio Pochettino has been under immense pressure this season following Chelsea’s on field performances. They are sitting tenth in the Premier League table with 35 points with immense pressure from Wolves who are placed 11th with same points.

While many fans want the Argentine manager to be sacked, Todd Boehly & the management at Chelsea are said to trust Mauricio Pochettino to not only push them away from current turbulent waters but also lead the Blues from London to glory again.

Mauricio Pochettino has time and time again said, “we need time” and the boss could be right in a sense about this.

Mauricio Pochettino can still salvage something out of Chelsea’s season

Silverware. Winning silverware is how managers are judged and Mauricio Pochettino has an opportunity to doing just that this weekend. Chelsea face Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on Sunday for the League Cup final. While many don’t value EFL Cup and what it represents, this is an opportunity for Pochettino to win Chelsea’s first title under Todd Boehly‘s time at the Bridge, Silverwares bring confidence among the squad, it helps to sell the project to future transfer prospects and gives supporters something to celebrate with a reason to back the players on the pitch.

Uniting with the supporters has to be one of the important factors for a long-term project to succeed. This not only helps weather the storm in the bad times but also gives the players and the supporters something to look forward to at the weekend. The atmosphere at Stamford Bridge hasn’t quite been the same since Todd has arrived and this could be massively down to the poor performances on the pitch. Pochettino can take this matter in hand along with other officials at the club and figure out a plan that would unite the fans with the players.

Defensive embarrassments: Chelsea have only kept 5 clean sheets with 41 goals conceded this season. The goals that Chelsea have usually conceded have come from counter attacks where the Blues are caught at surprise and cannot set themselves defensively.

Offensive sequences: Chelsea like to build up with the ball in the first phase while drawing opposition players with them which opens up space for arriving players in the said space. Doing so they not only take majority of opponents out of the game, they also create a situation where they can counter attack from from the middle of the ground. The centre-forwards are used to drop deep to receive pass from the midfielder who has triggered an opposition player on him.

The centre-forward then puts the ball behind the full-backs to utilize the pace of the winger. With the wingers high and bisecting wide and running into spaces Chelsea push the through ball to them which leads to a goal chance. This makes Chelsea one of the most vertical teams in the League. We saw them do this successfully against Manchester City last weekend. These types of sequences played in various ways are difficult to create consistently. These should come with time but the officials at Chelsea can ensure that chemistry between the offensive players is enough for them to play those sequences successfully on consistent basis.
