Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Thiago Silva gets no special treatment and is equal just as any other player
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says all players receive equal treatment under him and Thiago Silva is no different, as per Fabrizio Romano’s tweet. The Italian journo tweeted Chelsea managers words that read:
“All the players are in the same position as him. We always assess and then we take the decision. He is not different from the others. I don’t look at the passport or the age of the player”.
The Argentine’s comment seemingly lines up as the latest page in the Pochettino x Silva saga. The drama erupted following Thiago Silva’s absence from the starting XI against a crucial win against Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Silva’s wife’s cryptic tweet was perceived by many as a dig at the Chelsea manager. However, the boss clarifies the two are at peace concerning the situation. Silva last featured against Wolves where his side lost 2-4. The tactical change did work for the West Londoners as they conceded just one while scoring three against Villa.
Silva and Chelsea for the long haul?
The Brazilian midfielder is at the twilight of his career. The 39-year-old is pulling wonders at Stamford Bridge, competing against youngsters. He has been one of the few confidantes for Pochettino, who struggled with the unavailability of players.
Silva has featured in every Premier League game for Chelsea except one. He remained as an unused sub against Everton. The former PSG man is the player with the most playing minutes (1,922) in the Premier League for his club so far this season.
The numbers are a testament to his importance for the West London outfits. However, as mentioned earlier, age won’t be on his side for long. The Chelsea boss will need to find Silva’s replacement immediately.
