Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea players are desperate for fans’ backing
Mauricio Pochettino has advised the fans to show as much love as they can to the players during the games after the entire Stamford Bridge whistled the players in Chelsea’s 4-2 defeat to Wolves.
The Argentine manager feels his players are desperate for fans’ love and, at the same time, understand the frustration of the supporters, and they have every right to criticise us.
Not only fans, but this time the player’s family came out and were demanding the 51-year-old’s dismissal. Thiago Silva’s wife, Belle, urged the Blues’ board to change its managerial position on X.
But Pochettino says he has full backing from the board, and now he wants to win over the fans, and the Aston Villa game could be a good chance to change the atmosphere. The manager has also asked for the backing of players from fans, (h/t Football.London) and said:
“They are desperate to feel the love from the fans, but at the same time, they understand the situation. When you don’t perform and you don’t get the result, it’s normal that the fans should criticise us. Of course, this is a thing we need to create all together, and I think the team will create that, and the fans will realise the players need different support and need to feel the engagement with the people, the fans, and the energy.”
Chelsea players will have to turn up against Villa to change the mood of fans
We understand their predicament because those two losses have influenced the atmosphere, and if the players and Pochettino want to win over the fans, then the Villa game presents a great opportunity to make apologies. Being jeered off by our own fans is one of the most devastating emotions for a player, and it affects them in numerous manners.
Because our loss to Wolves was akin to the one we had to endure against Liverpool earlier, the fans’ anguish was clear. Chelsea supporters were dealt a serious blow and would have felt more strongly about the direction the team is going. They are more accustomed to seeing their teams win titles than losing games on a weekly basis.

The Villa game, however, is a significant opportunity for us to make reparations and win over the supporters; a loss will be viewed as a grave sadness, and the hostile atmosphere among the supporters will intensify.
