Chelsea star Cesare Casadei posts picture from PL debut with Chelsea
21-year-old Italian central midfielder Cesare Casadei came off the bench in the dying embers of the Blues’ 4-1 loss to Liverpool. While he failed to make any substantial impact, the fact that the player gets minutes on the biggest of stages stands as a testament to his constant hard work behind the scenes.
Coming off for Cole Palmer, he finished what was surely not a memorable visit to Anfield. Recently coming back from his loan spell at Leicester City, he has an opportunity to carve out a place for himself in the first-team setup at Chelsea and potentially pose a threat to the first-choice central midfielders.
What Casadei has over our current set of central players is the fact that he can put in a shift in central midfield, attacking midfield, defensive midfield and also play out from wide as well which is just a small example of his versatile nature. Defensively strong and good in transition as well, Casadei has a very high ceiling. After the game against the Reds, the Italian posted a picture on Instagram shared by his brother marking his debut for the Blues.
Well in, Cesare!
Although his brief cameo vs Liverpool may not have left a lasting impact, it surely marks a huge chapter for Casadei and his progress as a player. As he continues to gain experience and exposure at the highest level, he could certainly become a valuable asset for Chelsea, offering depth and competition in the midfield positions to the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Christopher Nkunku among others.
According to stats from FBRef, he ranks in the 95th percentile for npxG and is aerially very strong as well despite not being among the tallest of players in the squad. While the rest of the stats will not put up a great picture, the eye test works best for a player of Casadei’s calibre.
Looking ahead, his development shall remain closely monitored by Chelsea fans and management alike. His versatility, defensive prowess, and ability to contribute in multiple different ways will could position him as a promising prospect for the side’s midfield options in the years to come.
