Michael Carrick believes that his team will be ready for the second-leg match vs Chelsea.
Michael Carrick has sent a warning to Chelsea and said his side can pull the biggest upset in the tournament if they believe they can win the second leg.
The former Manchester United side put up a brilliant display to secure a 1-0 win over the Blues thanks to a goal from Hayden Hackney, and now they are just another 90 minutes away from securing the final berth in Wembley.
Carrick’s side are currently high on horses after one of their biggest wins for a championship side, and the head coach has told Mauricio Pochettino that his team will be ready for the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
Carrick, who won plenty of silverware with United, will be hoping to get his hands on one as a manager, but they still have one obstacle to overcome at Bridge. He challenged his players to defy the odds (h/t Metro), and told Sky Sports:
‘’We know the task ahead of us. We will be ready for the next game (the second leg) and attack the game and see what happens.”
‘’Football is about dreaming, and things happen like tonight, which probably shouldn’t happen. We go there with our eyes wide open and know what to expect, but it won’t stop us from trying.’’
We shouldn’t underestimate Middlesbrough because, as Carrick has stated, his team will be motivated for the second leg and we will be under pressure to win the game because they already have a goal advantage.
