Mario Lemina says Wolves ‘really deserved’ to beat Chelsea

Christmas came early for Wolverhampton Wanderers during their game against Chelsea. Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty emerged Santas, scoring goals for their side and ensuring that their fans got to celebrate the festive season early. Unfortunately, it came at the expense of Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

Wolves emerged 2-1 winners against the Blues at the weekend. Christopher Nkunku scored his first goal in a Chelsea shirt but don’t let the scoreline fool you. Mauricio Pochettino’s men were horrendous at worst and dismal at best.

It’s been the tale of the season for Chelsea. Every time they look like they are showing some kind of improvement, they quickly come up with a performance that makes the fans pluck their hair out. It’s been a very frustrating six months for the club.

Has there been progress under Mauricio Pochettino? There definitely has been significant improvement. Is it enough for a club of Chelsea’s stature though? Or should we merely be looking at ourselves as a midtable club for the next few seasons?

Speaking about the game against Chelsea on their official website, here is what Wolves star Mario Lemina had to say

“He just changed some little details in the tactics, and he works really well. We were able to push on from this moment and we’re really happy. We really deserved this win, I think.”

We can’t even argue with Lemina here. He is right, they deserved the win. Considering the fact that Chelsea can’t finish chances to save their lives, there is no way they deserve to win that game against a resurgent Wolves team.

They hunted in packs and ensured that they outplayed us in every department on the field. Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja need to take a serious look at themselves in the mirror. Every striker has to score goals, that’s their primary role on the field.

So, what is going to change for Chelsea in the second half of the season? Not much, I’m afraid. Unless the Blues go into the market and sign a top-class striker which we don’t envision happening in January, not much is going to change.

Pochettino is still the right man to do the job at Chelsea, we need to be patient with him. He needs a solid striker though. Jackson and Broja are not his answers. Let’s wait and see if the Blues can get creative in the transfer market.
