Chelsea will have to spend €180m to bring Ousmane Diomande and Viktor Gyokeres to Stamford Bridge
The Blues are looking forward to completing a double-move from Sporting CP with Ousmane Diomande and Viktor Gyokeres on their shopping list. The January transfer window brings a vast opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine is expected to fill voids in the defence and the front line.
However, the Portuguese club are demanding €100 million to set the wheels in motion. As per The Standard, Chelsea have made contact with Sporting CP as they are exploring centre-back options. The 20-year-old Ivory Coast international is expected to be one of Chelsea’s prime targets.
After rejecting an initial enquiry, Sporting are willing to sell Diomande for his complete release clause set at €80 million. The 20-year-old defender arrived at Sporting CP from FC Midtjylland last January. He has been instrumental in helping the club maintain the top position within the domestic league.
The club is also reported to have enquired about Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres. The club is reluctant to sell the 25-year-old for anything less than the release clause of €100 million.
Chelsea might seem greedy with their demands but they are not
Chelsea have Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah and Thiago Silva on the defensive roster. Among them, Fofana is sidelined with a long-term knee injury. Chalobah is most likely to be offloaded in January to fund new buys.
Thiago Silva’s contract is expiring by the end of the season and there’s been no talk about the extension so far. This has urged Pochettino to add more depth to his defensive side. On the other end, he is also looking at viable attacking options.
Viktor Gyokeres has a strong start to his Sporing career by registering 17 goals and eight assists from just 20 games. The centre-forward will be a great addition alongside Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson.
