A busy February awaits Chelsea due to changes in broadcast regulations
Chelsea face a major schedule change in February due to the latest fixture amendment circulation as per the club’s official statement. Chelsea’s clash versus Wolves has been moved back a day due to the latter’s game against Manchester United the preceding Thursday. The Crystal Palace game will now take place on February 12.
The Blues’ mouth-watering fixture against Manchester City will take place within five days. Their final league fixture for the month will be against Spurs without even a full week’s gap on February 23.
The Spurs face-off might be postponed should Chelsea advance to the Carabao Cup final that is scheduled to take place on February 25. Apart from Chelsa, Arsenal and Tottenham will be facing schedule changes too.
The unforeseen event took place owing to Sky Sports’ broadcast preferences. The broadcaster will be telecasting Chelsea’s games versus Crystal Palace and Manchester City.
A rather hectic month for Chelsea
Chelsea’s constant run with injuries has been unfortunately their highlight for the season. A busy schedule should put the London club’s players at further risk, especially their captain Reece James.
Mauricio Pochettino finally got a breather with Christopher Nkunku making it back to the squad. The Chelsea boss has also hinted at an imminent return of Romeo Lavia. However, back-to-back games without enough breaks increase the concern for the Argentine boss.
The Stamford Bridge residents have pulled themselves up to the 10th spot in the league table. Another good news came in the form of their triumph over a strong Newcastle United in the EFL Cup quarterfinal. Pochettino has requested the team management for a set of players in an attempt to bolster his side further.
However, that does not mean Chelsea’s gaffer will be open to risking the fitness of his players. Squad depth is something the Pochettino boasts over fellow Premier League managers. Smart deployment of players according to the fixture can grant them enough recovery period and avoid any woes.
