Salzburg captain Amar Dedic is targetted by Chelsea and many other major European clubs ahead of the January window
Chelsea faces immense competition in their attempt at signing Salzburg wing-back Amar Dedic. Newcastle are in for the ‘big money’ move to land the Bosnian international. The 21-year-old star is tipped to be a favourite for Jose Mourinho per The SunSport.
The ‘special one’ had made a £21.5 million bid for the young defender last season, which was rejected by the club. The Blues sent scouts to all of Dedic’s Champions League games this season while also sending the team to watch the wonder kid play in the league and Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The player is also pursued with similar interest by Newcastle United. The Magpies want the versatile defender as a backup option and a competition for Kieran Trippier. Their need grows further with the chances of their wingback Lewis Hall returning to Chelsea in the summer.
The RB Salzburg defender is a hot target for many major European teams like Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter Milan. Roma was in the race as well, however, with Mourinho’s contract set to expire by the end of the season, it is unlikely for the Serie A side to chase his targets.
How massive is Amar Dedic?
The 21-year-old is the club captain who also enjoys a lengthy contract with the Austrian champs. He has scored five and assisted three from 25 games this season. His side has conceded just 10 goals, further proving the youngster’s defensive prowess.
His versatility could be instrumental for Pochettino who intends to add competition for Marc Cucurella. Problems that arise due to Reece James’ recurring injuries could also be met with the inclusion of Amar Dedic.
Pursuit from many top clubs, lengthy contract and the player’s form will give RB Salzburg the room to quote a ‘hefty price tag’ for the player. Chelsea have splashed the cash in the transfer windows lately and should be able to meet the requirements set by the Austrian team.
