Chris Sutton predicts Chelsea vs Newcastle United to end as a draw
The international break is finally over and club football enthusiasts would be eagerly anticipating some high-octane clashes in the Premier League this weekend, including the one between Chelsea and Newcastle United.
There is a lot of optimism surrounding the Blues at the moment. Much of it has to do with the fact that Chelsea played two very impressive games just before the international break, a 4-1 win over Tottenham and a 4-4 win against Manchester City.
For a side supposedly struggling to score goals, eight of them in two games is certainly no mean feat. They will be hoping to continue the good run when they take on Eddie Howe’s Newcastle this weekend.
The Magpies themselves looked very jaded in the game against Bournemouth that they lost just before the international break. Maybe the additional pressure of playing in the Champions League seems to be taking a toll on them.
Predicting games every weekend like he always does as quoted by BBC, here is what Chris Sutton had to say about the game between the Blues and Newcastle United.
“Newcastle looked really jaded in their defeat by Bournemouth before the international break. They have got some injured players back in contention, including Alexander Isak, but the question is how fit are they, and how much has changed in two weeks. It’s a similar story with Chelsea, who could hand Christopher Nkunku his debut but, if that happens, it will probably be off the bench. They are improving, yes, but they are still so erratic, which makes this game almost impossible to call.”
“There are signs they have turned a corner and they were so impressive at times against Manchester City but you can’t rely on them to play well again here. To be honest, I feel like giving up when it comes to making predictions about Chelsea games anyway – I get their scores wrong every week, so I am ready to be proved wrong again here.”
Sutton’s prediction: 1-1
Sutton is right in saying Chelsea is one game he just doesn’t seem to be getting right. It is not a surprise since nobody, including the club, seem to know how they will play on any given day. It must be a nightmare for him to predict.
Chelsea were expecting Christopher Nkunku to return for the Newcastle clash. That does not seem to be the case though. Luckily, there seem to have been no new injuries and we can ensure some continuity from the past two games.
Considering Manchester City and Liverpool play each other this weekend, that clash is arguably going to hog all the limelight. If the Blues need people to sit up and take notice, they need to come up with a performance to remember.
