Chelsea stars Levi Colwill and Malo Gusto are confirmed fit to face Newcastle United
According to the Evening Standard, the return of Levi Colwill and Malo Gusto will give Chelsea a key boost for their game against Newcastle United on Saturday. Colwill missed the Manchester City match while Gusto was withdrawn from the France U21 squad.
Reece James started against City but was replaced by Gusto in the second half, while Colwill didn’t feature in the entire game due to a shoulder problem. Both Chelsea stars suffered shoulder problems and were withdrawn from their respective national team squads during November international matches.
It has hopefully provided them enough time to recover from the injuries, and let’s see if they will fully fit to feature in the match; otherwise, we will have to take precautions and not risk playing them. Their return before the Newcastle match is welcome news for the Blues, who have continued their fine form under Mauricio Pochettino and have lost only once in the last four games.
Colwill has appeared in every game except City’s match, but he will aim to start against the Magpies. While Gusto could come in as a substitute given that James is now fully fit to start the game, The Blues, who are in 10th place, will attempt to reduce the gap in their standings. Qualifying for the Champions League should be our main objective this season.
We need every member of the team to be fit for that since injuries have definitely hindered us this season. However, Colwill’s return is an excellent development for us, as he has proven to be a defensive bedrock at the back. Gusto’s performance as James’ backup has been excellent, though, since it gives the right-back position some new blood and will relieve some of James’s workload.
