Jose Mourinho want to bring Chelsea centre-backs Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr to AS Roma
Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing Chelsea outcasts Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr after the Portuguese manager signed Romelu Lukaku on loan.
Italian outlet Calciomercato revealed that (h/t Metro), Sarr and Chalobah are on the transfer wishlist as he looks to add more depth in his defensive area.
Both Chalobah and Sarr’s time at Chelsea seems to be coming to an end, as both have been deemed surplus to requirement, and a January move could be possible.
Chalobah and Sarr are in their early 20s and deserve playing time, but the Blues already have plenty of options in defence who are ahead of them in standing.
So it’s uncertain if they will receive regular game time at Chelsea. Mourinho can provide them with new life at Roma, where Lukaku and Tammy Abraham found their footing.
Chalobah is currently out injured and hasn’t appeared in any games, while Sarr hasn’t been in any matchday squads either. The Blues will hope to cash in on both their defenders as they look to slim down their squad.
However, Roma are going to face competition for Chalobah, who is also pursued by Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United over the summer. The 24-year-old might have his say on which club he wants to join after, last summer, he turned down a move to Nottingham Forest.
Since we have so many options at our disposal and the Blues have expressed interest in adding more centre-backs, perhaps in January or the summer transfer window, it makes sense for both defenders to find playing time elsewhere. Once they arrive, Chalobah and Sarr won’t have any opportunity to get playing time.

They shouldn’t hesitate to transfer to another club if they believe they will receive consistent playing time because it will be better for their development and may even improve their output. Mourinho can help Chalobah and Sarr restore their form after he assisted former Blues stars Abraham and Lukaku in doing the same. Chalobah, though, has several possibilities, so we’ll also have to wait for him to decide which team to join.
