Manchester United join Chelsea in the race for Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Ivan Toney has made himself available for the January transfer window, and now the competition is increasing with Manchester United joining Chelsea for the acquisition of the Brentford forward.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United have been linked with Toney for a January move amid Chelsea interest. United have been recently hit with goalscoring woes; yesterday they scraped to a 1-0 win over Fulham. The club already has Rasmus Hojlund, but Erik ten Hag feels the club needs an experienced striker.
Chelsea’s goal-scoring issues are more serious than United’s. A more effective approach to solving the goalscoring issue would be to target an experienced striker, as the previous acquisitions haven’t performed satisfactorily in front of goal. Hojlund has yet to open his goalscoring account in the Premier League, despite leading the Champions League scoring charts with three goals.
Although the Dane is a proficient attacker, his lack of league goals has been attributed to the lack of service from his teammates; therefore, it makes sense for United to look for a forward who can rival the 20-year-old.
Chelsea, though, have two options. Go for Toney this January or Victor Osimhen next summer. Signing Nigerian forwards will be challenging given the amount of money Napoli will demand.
United have a way bigger crisis than just finding a striker. The players are unhappy with Ten Hag’s methods and the dull mood in the changing room. We have a strong team now, and if we recruit a consistent No. 9, the wins will start to arrive. In the majority of our games, we’ve had plenty of opportunities, but our present striker isn’t good enough to take advantage of them.

Toney will have to make a significant choice, and coming to us will be the right one as it will ensure his playing time, but at United, he might have to rotate with Hojlund for minutes on the pitch but anything can happen and we cannot guarantee which club he will choose to join.
